EVAN PARKER & PAUL LYTTON "Three Other Stories" (1971-4) EMANEM 4002
Three unbelievable journeys with Parker on saxophones plus traditional and home-made instruments, and Lytton on a vast range of percussion and live electronics. Each trip covers a whole variety of colours, fusing influences as diverse as John Cage, John Coltrane and Tibetan monks, into a unique and original music. 69 minutes - previously unissued.

SPONTANEOUS MUSIC ENSEMBLE "Face to Face" (1973) EMANEM 4003
JOHN STEVENS (percussion, cornet, voice) and TREVOR WATTS (soprano saxophone) at the legendary Little Theatre Club - as close as one can get to two musicians improvising as one. STEVE LACY "Weal & Woe" (1972-3) EMANEM 4004
Lacy at his most adventurous in his very first solo soprano saxophone concerts (recorded in Avignon). Unsurpassable improvisations on original compositions. Plus "THE WOE", his powerful anti-war suite performed by the Quintet (in Zurich) with STEVE POTTS, IRENE AEBI, KENT CARTER & OLIVER JOHNSON. SPONTANEOUS MUSIC ENSEMBLE "Summer 1967" EMANEM 4005
The only known recordings of the highly original and influential duo of JOHN STEVENS (percussion) & EVAN PARKER (saxophones) when they were a working improvising band. Also their first meeting with PETER KOWALD (double bass), who was visiting London on vacation. The beginning of a new music. 67 minutes - previously unissued.



ANTHONY BRAXTON & DEREK BAILEY "First Duo Concert" (1974) EMANEM 4006
Their earliest meeting on record - the complete London (Wigmore Hall) concert (organised by Emanem), featuring them both at the top of their form. Highly acclaimed by both enthusiasts and critics. The whole of a hugely successful solo Los Angeles concert, featuring two extended guitar improvisations, an encore, some chat and applause. There is nothing to edit out. The guitar was an acoustic one used with some amplification - the close digital recording makes it sound almost acoustic. 57 minutes - previously unissued.



ROGER SMITH "Unexpected Turns" (1993-6) EMANEM 4014
Stunning solo acoustic guitar improvisations (recorded digitally) by one of the unsung masters, who made his previous highly acclaimed solo record much too long ago in 1980. "A mercurial combination of flowing lyricism and disruptive awkwardness, unafraid of exploiting the conventional beauty of the instrument's timbre as well as startling the ear with more abrasive sounds."
